AMA seeks spiritual help over Circle fires

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, has hinted that city authorities might consult a spiritualist to ascertain the cause for the rampant fires that have struck facilities around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area in recent times.

“I think the most important thing at this stage is to look at the cause of the fire from the scientific point, the structural point, all the necessary points, aside from the spiritual point; so they will do their job and they will give us the report. Once we get the report, we will go from there…we will let the spiritualists, those in that area of operation to continue to dialogue with us to see what they need to do.”

On Thursday, fire fighters prevented what could have been another disaster when they put out a raging fire at the Vienna City night club at Circle, from spreading to a nearby fuel station.

At least, three people including two fire officers were injured in the process.

This is the second major fire outbreak in the area after the June 3 2015 flood and fire disaster that killed close to 150 people at the Goil Fuel Station. The Mayor told Citi News that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

“…The investigation as to the cause of the fire is ongoing. The Police is involved, NADMO is involved, and all the security agencies are involved so we will await the outcome of the investigations and we will go from there.”

“There was no casualty in the fire outbreak but I think in the rescue mission, I was informed that one of the fire officers was affected. Thank God he survived and doing well at the Ridge hospital so we will continue pray that he gets better.”
Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman who visited the scene a day after the incident occurred, reported that “there is heavy military and police presence there.”

“There are fire service personnel inside also trying to do their investigations to find out what really caused the fire ….,” he added.
