Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Afiah Djaba is calling on Ghanaians to stop stigmatization and discrimination against women who are suffering from fistula.

She made the call during a programme to commemorate International Day to end Obstetric Fistula, a condition among women who have suffered prolonged labour forcing them to pass urine and faeces through the vagina.

In Ghana, 1,300 new cases of fistula are recorded annually out of which only 150 cases treated.

According to her, the women suffering from this condition are jilted by their husbands and family making their lives more difficult.

She says is it time to help such women get medical help and not discriminate against them.

She added that government will enroll these women unto the Livelihood Empowerment Againt Poverty (LEAP).
