OTUMFUO WANT GOVERNMENT TO RECONSIDER POLICY ON UNIVERSITIES IGF REMITTANCE
POLICY
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has
called on government to reconsider the policy of universities remitting their
internally generated funds to government.
He has described as unfair the situation where universities
remit 34 per cent of its IGF to government. Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second says government must find a more
sustainable means of funding the universities.
He was speaking at the climax of graduation session as part of
the 51st congregation ceremony at the Kwame Nkrumah University
of Science and Technology.
Insuring effective training of highly skilled personnel, the
university has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern teaching
hospital on its campus. It is aimed at
intensifying efforts at training more doctors and other health care
professionals for the country. But the project has
stalled.
The Asantehene who doubles as Chancellor of the school wants
government to deliver on its promise.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh
explains plans in a tertiary fund to complete the project. Chief Director of the Education Ministry, Enoch Kobinah
delivered the speech on the minister’s behalf.
The university graduated a total of 9,156 undergraduate and postgraduate students in 10 sessions since
Tuesday. 922 students from the Graduate school graduated today, out of which 39
graduated with PhDs.
