Eastern region lands fertile for ‘wee’ cultivation – Police

Eastern region lands fertile for ‘wee’ cultivation – Police

The Eastern regional Police PRO ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah has revealed that lands in the region are fertile for the cultivation of Indian hemp, popularly known as ‘wee’.

According to him, that explains why there is a regular bust of syndicates engaging in the growth and sale of the illegal herb in the region.

Over the last few weeks, several syndicates including foreigners have been arrested in the Eastern region with large quantities of ‘wee’.

The latest arrest was on March 2, where over 64 sacks of the illicit herb was impounded by the regional police command.

Speaking to  Saturday, ASP Nketia-Yeboah said even though it is an established fact that the land in the area is arable for the growth of wee, the cultivation of the herb is frowned upon by the laws of the land.

“The fact is that the lands in the region are fertile for the cultivation of wee. And that is the truth. But it must be established that the fact that the area is fertile for the growth of the herb doesn’t mean that people should go into that business, because the Police will not allow them. The laws of our land does not permit it and the Police will continue to go after them,” he stated.

Brochure gaffe: NPP has no moral right to call for probe – Adu Asare

Brochure gaffe: NPP has no moral right to call for probe – Adu Asare

Kojo Adu Asare
Presidential staffer Kojo Adu Asare has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for making political capital out of Ghana’s 59th Independence Day brochure gaffe.

Asare concurred the error-laden brochure embarrassed the nation, but insisted the main opposition party lacks the moral right following its track record to call for a probe into the scandal.

His comments come in the wake of NPP’s call for an independent investigation into the printing of the over 3000 error-ridden brochures for Ghana’s 59th Independence celebration. The NPP believes the findings can inform future actions to prevent a recurrence. Ghana has been ridiculed for capturing Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta, who was the Guest of Honour at the parade, as the President of Ghana in the brochure among a litany of unpardonable errors.

The gaffe has been generally condemned and some politicians say it is a manifestation of government’s incompetence. Acting head of the Information Services Department has been sacked and the Communications Bureau at the Flagstaff House is now under direct control of the Communications Ministry.

But a livid Asare, who spoke on Accra-based OK FM, said the NPP should be the last to attempt to feed on the current incident since they are worse culprits.

“Listen to who’s talking? Does the NPP think Ghanaians have forgotten about the litany of embarrassment they took this country through? They should give us a break,” he told show host Kwame Etikese.

He asked: “Wasn’t it under this same NPP that Ghana suffered the biggest embarrassment ever in its life when a simple voter ID card had its colours turned upside down? Instead of the colours of the national flag, horizontal stripes of Red, Yellow and Green, didn’t the NPP government print the Voters’ ID cards with horizontal stripes of Green, Yellow Red? So our cards were in the colours of Senegal? What was the NPP’s response to such a serious embarrassment? Did they call for a probe into that scandal?

“Isn’t it under the same NPP regime that its first Finance Minister signed a loan agreement in the German language, which he could neither read nor write? Isn’t it under this same NPP that the same Finance Minister brought a CNTCI loan to Parliament for consideration where it was later found out that the address of the company was actually a hair dressing saloon in London?

"Wasn’t it under the same NPP regime that saw an Attorney General filing a case in court and titled it the President versus Tsatsu Tsikata, instead of the Republic versus Tsatsu Tsikata?

“They should tell Ghanaians which of these issues compare with the unfortunate mistakes in the brochure. NPP should please leave Ghanaians alone.”

The former Adenta MP advised the largest opposition party to focus on selling a message to the Ghanaian electorate if they are really interested to win power and not resort to picking on issues they lack the moral authority to talk about.

Ghana @59: Let’s sacrifice for the future generation – Mahama

Ghana @59: Let’s sacrifice for the future generation – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has called on those in authority now to be ready to sacrifice for the children of today in order to inherit a peaceful future.

Speaking during the 59th Independence Day Anniversary of Ghana at the Black Star Square Sunday, President Mahama said the West African nation and some African countries are enjoying freedom today because our forebears “some of whom are not known” laid down their lives for today’s generation.

“We are the ones that must ensure there is liberty in our lands. Every year school children are included in the Independence Day parade, not for the purposes of entertainment but as a representation of our nation’s future.

“These children are the future of Ghana… it’s our responsibility to safeguard our independence so that the nation that we leave for our children to inherit will also be free, peaceful and democratic,” Mahama told a parade of school children, service personnel, political leaders including the presidents of Kenya and Guinea Bissau Uhuru Kenyatta and Jose Mario Vaz respectively.

He added: “The future we are building is situated on the grounds that our forebears broke. In the future these children who marched here today will be depending on our attitudes and actions. The successes and failures of these nations belong to all of us.

“We have to provide today’s children with a solid foundation… We must invest ourselves not only in the achievements the nation has chalked but also in the challenges because each of us is the face of Ghana. We must use discussions to strengthen who we are as one nation. We can’t encourage conversations that will discourage us and weaken our morale.”

Uhuru Kenyatta and Jose Mario Vaz joined Mahama to review a national parade of school children, voluntary organisations and security services at the Black Star Square.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Investing in the Youth for Ghana's Transformation."

5 Ways to save money when you’re broke

5 Ways to save money when you’re broke
http://www.graphic.com.gh/media/k2/items/cache/27a71434c0bdd5d60b850572a92d9ccb_XL.jpgIt can be hard to save money at any time, but it is particularly difficult when you feel like you are broke. If you can barely afford your bills and you are living paycheck to paycheck, saving money is probably one of the last things on your mind. However, you can still save money when you’re broke. In fact saving money, even if it is a little, is a key step to stop being broke.

As long as you are making some money, you should be saving some. Especially if you routinely have insufficient funds, it’s important to make a habit of saving money. Despite the fact that you have little extra funds, there are ways to save. Cutting costs, sticking to a budget, and saving a little at a time are all ways that you can save money, but there are other ways as well. Here are five ideas to consider.

1. Cut out the extras

An easy way to save money when you’re broke is to cut costs. You may think there is nothing you can cut out at first, but think a little harder. If you are truly “broke” then you need to let some things go. Do you really need such an expensive cell phone plan? What about cable television? Can you use the internet at the library or use WiFi instead of paying a monthly fee? There are many things that we considered necessities that are really just extras, and cutting some of those will quickly free up more money. Take a look at your monthly bills, and decide what is really necessary. If you want to stop being broke, you may have to cut out some of the extras for a while.

You also might need to evaluate your spending habits. Simply choosing the generic brand of food more often, or shopping deals and using coupons can quickly save you money. You may have to cut out your preference for name brand items in order to save big.

2. Eat at home

Grabbing lunch on the go is so much easier and more convenient than bringing a lunch to work, but doing this regularly will really eat away at your income. According to Living on A Dime, eating out is a common way people get into personal debt. It’s easy to rationalize eating out because you are too busy to cook, or you are a poor cook. However, making food at home will truly save you money, and if you want to save money, you need to make the time and the effort to cook at home.

You can save time by making several meals over the weekend and freezing them to use during the workweek. If you simply don’t know how to cook, buy a cookbook for beginners.

3. Make a budget

If you don’t have a budget, your first step should be to make one. Perhaps you already have a budget, but there are several reasons a budget can fail. If you recently lost your job, or your income somehow changed but you are using the same budget, you will need to make a new one. You also may need to look at your budget and see if it is really reasonable and if you need to adjust anything.

According to Lifehacker, if you are broke and budgeting, there are several steps that can help. Start by assessing your financial situation, cut back on expenses (as mentioned in point one), be frugal. There are other steps you can also take, including paying down your debt.

4. Save a little at a time

If you’re completely broke, the idea of saving anything probably seems unreasonable. However, you have to get into the habit of saving if you are going to save more in the long run. It’s important to think about the future: write down your financial goals, even if they seem completely out of reach. Then, start saving. If you are saving nothing right now, then any savings is an improvement. Once you cut your extras and start following a budget, you can use some of the discretionary money to save for your future.

Another idea is to get a second job. Even if you only work a few extra hours each week, but you put all the money in a savings account, you will quickly see a change in your financial situation.

5. Avoid common mistakes

You can make plenty of good decisions about your finances, but if you make a few poor decisions, you will still have a hard time saving. Some of the worst things to do when you are broke include splurging when you get money, prioritizing convenience, taking on too much debt or making poor decisions about debt, living beyond your means, and having no savings at all.

It’s really easy to live above your means, but this is one of the easiest ways to get into debt. If you have a hard time controlling your spending, try setting a budget and then doing envelope budgeting (you can modernize this practice with a few steps). Also, be careful about the debt that you incur. You need to avoid the worst financial mistakes if you really want to save.

Saving money isn’t easy, but if you take the time to put these five steps into practice, you will be off to a good start.

Will you kill for sex

Will you kill for sex
Many people take human life for granted and would easily kill to meet their selfish ends. Some kill for position, wealth, position and fame. Today many are killing for sex.

About a month ago, there was a story of a taxi driver who killed his university student with a knife because she refused him sex. There is also a case of a man who killed his woman because she refused him sex this year’s Valentine’s Day.

The poor girl went to her man on Valentine’s Day and hugged him. To the man, hugging must lead to sex and refusal of sex must lead to death.

Benefits of sex

Sex in marriage has amazing benefits for the body and mind. Regular sex reduces the risk of heart failure, stroke and prostate cancer. It is a good exercise and helps in weight control. Stimulation of sexual organs and orgasm triggers the body to increase oxytocin and endorphin which are natural pain killers to alleviate pain of every kind from minor headache, migraine, menstrual cramps and arthritis.

It improves the immune system and therefore reduces risk of diseases and makes one look younger and live longer.

In men, regular sex is linked to better functions as they age. In women regular sex strengthens the vaginal and pelvic floor muscles to enhance chances of orgasm.

It reduces vaginal dryness and hot flashes in post-menopausal women.

Regular sex is the best stress management tool. It lowers blood pressure and reduces depression. It enhances good mood and increases self-esteem. It makes one happy and more effective at work.

Regular sex is also a powerful bonding agent which covers most conflicts. It would be hard to leave a spouse if sexual life is exciting.

Sex, therefore, promotes every area of life but it is beneficial only in marriage. Outside marriage, sex is sinful, harmful and unethical.

Men and sex

Men perform sex for pleasure, comfort, reassurance and ego enhancement. Regular sex is critical to a man’s sense of feeling loved and desired by his wife.
