How to be a nice boyfriend

How to be a nice boyfriend

Being a nice boyfriend begins with being a nice person.  If you're a nice person who treats people well, you're probably a nice boyfriend. If you're not, then you shouldn't be anyone's boyfriend until you've mastered this key life skill.

You need to be more than just nice in your relationship, though. You need to make sure your girlfriend never feels like she's taken for granted.

Thoughtfulness -- thinking of other people first -- will make you a nice person and a nice boyfriend.

Be honest: Act like yourself. If there are parts of your personality that you think she will find distasteful, don't shield her from them.

This is because your girlfriend will sense that you are hiding parts of yourself from her and will become less attracted to you because of it.

Be humble. Let her know that you are working on improving in some areas.

Surprise her with romantic gestures: Not necessarily the traditional red roses or massive stuffed animals, but gifts and surprises that clearly show you think she's special and you know what she likes.

A sweet note or unexpectedly making her dinner will go a long way to remind your girlfriend that she has a nice boyfriend.

Listen to her: When you ask your girlfriend how her day has been, listen to what she says rather than just tuning out. Let her know that her thoughts matter to you.

Give your girlfriend space: Texting her nonstop and insisting on knowing her whereabouts at all times will make her grow tired of you.

Let her come to you sometimes and don't worry if you haven't heard from her in a few hours. Trust her.

Act nicely to everyone: This means not having a temper tantrum when your waiter brings the wrong order, not starting fights when you're out at night and generally being a pleasant person to be around.

Show her you respect others and value how you communicate with them.

Remember important dates: Never forget your girlfriend's birthday, the various anniversaries of your relationship or any dates that are important to her.

Remember the date of her big test or performance review at work and her parents' anniversary. Write them down on your calendar and don't forget to let her know you remembered first thing on that day.

Make reservations well in advance or buy tickets to a concert or show you know she'll want to see.

Understand that she'll have bad days: Everyone has moods, disappointments and setbacks. Don't let hers make any difference in your thoughtful treatment of her.

Let your girlfriend know she doesn't always have to be "on" with you and that you care about how she feels.

Do things your girlfriend wants to do even if you don't: Let her pick the movie at least half of the time. Visit her family, wash the dishes and try that new food she's into.

Never speak badly about your girlfriend to your friends or anyone else: Even if you're angry, tired, having a bad week or annoyed with her, keep your business between the two of you.

At the same time, never miss a chance to say something nice about her to others.

Dating tips for very attractive women

Dating tips for very attractive women
Dating tips for very attractive women
Attractive women often have a harder time meeting men and dating than you might assume.

While you may think that every guy is chasing after gorgeous girls, sometimes it’s just the opposite.

Men are often too shy to approach pretty women. In order to eliminate this problem, you should be as approachable as possible.

This is particularly important if you're shy, which may come off as snobby instead of meek.

Confidence: Act confident. Even the most gorgeous woman has insecurities. Try to see what other people see, in the best light possible.

Ignore minor issues and realise that it’s probably that you’re the only one who notices those tiny things.

Compare yourself to others if necessary, noting your positive points.

Facial Expression: Look happy. Wearing a scowl, whether you’re really angry or just not smiling, is not going to attract men.

Make an effort to project an easy, kind smile. If you must, look directly at a guy and smile at him, but don’t overdo it.

You don’t have to be too toothy; just a simple, nice smile will do, as if you were admiring something you like.

Eye Contact: Make eye contact. A man won't likely approach a girl when he thinks he doesn’t have even a glimmer of a chance.
If you catch him checking you out, meet his gaze and hold it for a few seconds. This will let him know you’re interested.

Body Language: Pay attention to your body language. In order to project that you’re open and approachable, keep your arms at your sides instead of crossed in front of you.

Lean forward instead of backward if someone is talking to you, and stand straight up instead of slouching and looking unhappy.

Social Group: Stray from the pack. There’s nothing wrong with going out with a ton of your girlfriends, but remember that most men aren't going to brave your friends to get to you for an introduction.

It would be just as intimidating if you were to walk into a group of eight handsome men, hoping the one you had your eye on was interested.

Linger alone for a bit -- walk slowly to the restroom, browse the jukebox or order your own drink from the bartender.

Caution: Avoid being overly flirtatious. You can seem happy and fun without letting every man in the area know that you’re available and ready to mingle.

Flirting with everyone within arm’s reach will make the cute guy nearby look for a girl who’s less busy.

Midwife arrested for chopping off baby’s penis

A private midwife at Awutu Breku in the Central region, Christiana Hammond is in the grips of the Police after she cut off the penis of a week old baby during circumcision.
The baby yet to be named died upon arrival at the hospital after bleeding profusely from the cut.
The distraught mother, Cynthia Nimoh in an interview with Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said,  she is in shock because they did not expect such an experienced midwife to make such a 'deadly mistake'.
“After the circumcision, I took my baby home and just when I’m about to change his diaper, he started crying uncontrollably and we realized that my baby was bleeding and I knew it was not normal.
“We took her back to the hospital and realized that the midwife did a very big mistake my cutting the penis of my baby” she said.
The teary woman said when her family confronted the midwife, she started apportioning unnecessary blames.

However, the baby’s grandmother, Aba Atta alleged that the midwife insulted them after they realized that the baby was bleeding.
“The midwife had the guts to insult us when we came back to the hospital. She accused us of killing the child” she asserted.

Meanwhile, the Awutu Brenya Police Commander ASP Samuel Anfo said the woman operating the Christy's Maternity Home and Clinic pleaded no guilty and was processed for court.
But the Ofankor Circuit Court has remanded the midwife and charged her with murder. The case has been adjourned to March 16, 2016 for the trial.

Why your ex can’t be your friend

Why your ex can’t be your friend

Happy Couple
Today I want to remind you of one fundamental principles you must learn and keep if you want our relationship to live to achieve the purpose for which it was started. You may treat it as a law, that is if you won’t find it too authoritative. I want you to know that your ex-boyfriend can never be your friend.

He should not be your enemy. But he is not, should not, cannot and must not be your friend. The regular phone calls must cease, and messages between you two must stop. I will not take your meetings with him lightly. Get it once and for all. And let’s bring a closure on this matter.

The biggest threat to every relationship is the presence of the former lover of one of the two parties, or worse when the two partners are still in regular touch with their ex-lovers. The only way to have a happy relationship and happy marriage is to follow the lyrics of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana hymn that says if you are running and you keep looking sideways, you will never get to your destination. It is even worse and more dangerous if one keeps looking backwards as you do with your ex. Maybe the lesson of Lot’s wife should not be lost on you.

This week, I read an intriguing article written by Helen FitzGerald, an Australian novelist. The article, which was published by the Guardian newspaper in the UK was titled: “Why I went back to my ex-boyfriends, one by one.”

Helen celebrated her silver wedding anniversary with her husband, Sergio, in September last year and describes her 25-years of marriage with him as being “ridiculously happy.” Two weeks before their wedding, however, Helen did something crazy. She decided to revisit all the men she had dated before she met Sergio. Sergio agreed and even went a step further to accompany her on one such visit. Why did Helen do what she did?

“I had left Australia three years earlier to travel, just after breaking up with James. Truth be told, I fully expected to return to James, but somewhere along the way Sergio happened, and I decided to leave Australia permanently and live with him in Scotland. As the wedding approached, I was as excited as I was terrified, and felt the need to revisit the person I had been with. I wanted to make sure I was being true to myself; that I was right to leave my old world,” she writes.

“I’ve never been very good at making decisions. Closure? Forget it. When I was dating in my teens and early 20s, I lingered over relationships, too terrified to move on. Each boyfriend came with a life laid out. To end it meant abandoning a known future and heading into an uncertain one.”

When Helen visited her ex-boyfriend, James, she went with Sergio. While she took a walk with James, Sergio also walked ahead with James’ new girlfriend. Before she realised what was happening, she was holding hands with James and it took a stern look from Sergio to disengage the two. She said it happened “accidentally.”

Helen also tried to contact another former boyfriend of hers, Daniel, “who cried whenever we had sex, more so when he was looking at me. Once, while he was at it, head in the pillow howling, he came up for air and said, ‘I’ve just got to get through this!’ I couldn’t track him down, unfortunately. I do hope he came out.”

She also reached out to Ethan. And also visited her first boyfriend, Dave, whose sexual prowess she writes fondly about. “Most of 1981 was spent kissing. One whole year was dedicated to foreplay – ie, a year of the best sex I would ever have. Dave was also unusually sized, in a good way, which I didn’t realise at the time, him being the first. This means I have been disappointed ever since.”

After many years of happy marriage, Helen writes: “I think my ex tour played a part. My exes helped me uncover the qualities I didn’t want in a life partner, and the ones I did.”

Serwaa, Helen’s story article is an intriguing story but I disapprove of what she did, and you may be wondering why I decided to tell you about it. Am I encouraging you to try such a thing? Far from it! The day you try such a thing will be the day you will graduate from being my girlfriend to my ex-girlfriend.

It is interesting to note that Helen gave a hint she would not have tolerated what happened when Sergio followed her on her ex-tour. “In fact, Sergio introduced me to his own ex before our wedding. Thankfully, they didn’t accidentally hold hands. (I’m not as understanding as Sergio.)

Helen did the unthinkable. She took an extreme step. But the reality is that many people enter into relationships and still flirt dangerously with their former lovers. I have a strong view on this. And that is why I find it difficult to understand your explanation that your ex is just your friend and that you now see him as a brother.

Serwaa, an ex-boyfriend cannot and must not be your friend. Your ex should not be your enemy, but he should not be your friend either. You must not have conversations with him. When you move on, live your life as if you have never known him. It can sometimes be difficult, but it is the only sensible thing to do if you want to save your relationship.

Love does not die completely. Irrespective of how bitter the two lovers were during the breakup, time heals. The anger dies down eventually. But the remnants of love that bound the two together will still linger for a while. Time does not kill it. Distance does. Many people who cheat in their relationships do so with their ex. Sometimes, they eventually go back to settle with them, leaving the new lover who entered into the relationship with hope with disappointment and heartache.

Sometimes those who go back to their ex-lovers do not do so with the intention of settling with them. Some just want to have fun with them and dump them. The men do this more.

If you are in a relationship and your partner is entertaining their ex, there are only two options available to you: talk them into cutting ties with their ex or begin to find your way out.

Another reason you must cut all ties with your ex is to avoid the tendency of comparing your current lover with your ex. I don’t know how Sergio felt when Helen wrote that she was disappointed after experiencing Dave’s manhood and later settling for men who were not as endowed as he is.

Serwaa, I have a past. And you have a past. What everyone who has ever been in a serious relationship may have learnt is that, it is difficult to move on. Leaving a relationship is not easy even if the relationship is not the one you would want to keep. Besides, the fact that you are leaving a relationship doesn’t mean everything about the partner is bad. There are certain aspects of them we may love but the overall evaluation of the person may give us a fair idea of whether to leave or stay.

If the negative about the person outweighs the positive and you are leaving, you may still yearn for the positive side. It is human nature. I know a young lady who left an abusive relationship but still could not let go the sexual satisfaction that abusive young man gave her. It was one of the reasons she lost the new guy she was about to marry.

Did she go back to her ex? No! She had sworn nothing would make her marry that man. She didn’t see a future with him. What she was missing was his sex. Unfortunately, however, there is more to a relationship and marriage than good sex. The only way to avoid such pitfalls is to cut ties with your ex. Even if you don’t keep that friendship with the intention of doing anything with them, they may have very different reasons.

Serwaa, a few people are so lucky that their first boyfriends or girlfriends end up marrying them and being with them forever. That is not the case with many. When things don’t work out and you are moving on, move on. Don’t leave a relationship with one foot behind. Whoever you have dated and moved on belongs to your past. Don’t be bitter even if you regret ever spending a day with them. Move on with the lessons. They all help to shape you and make you a better person depending on how you take them.

When moving on, however, don’t entertain your past, your ex. If that past were good enough you would not have moved on.

Future Chinese skylines could look more uniform

Future Chinese skylines could look more uniform

Beijing (CNN)Chinese architecture will now officially be less weird.
A statement from China's State Council Sunday, says new guidelines on urban planning will forbid the construction of "bizarre" and "odd-shaped" buildings that are devoid of character or cultural heritage.
Instead, the directive calls for buildings that are "economic, green and beautiful."
China's economic boom over the past several decades has coincided with a boom in the construction of unique, eye-catching buildings and the country has been dubbed an architect's playground.
Beijing is home to one of the country's most iconic buildings, the CCTV headquarters by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), co-founded by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. It has been nicknamed "big pants" by locals, for its resemblance to trousers.
The golden People's Daily headquarters has also been made fun of. Midway through construction, a doctored photo of the phallic building superimposed under the CCTV's "pants" went viral.

Spaceship, teapot

Other eye-catching buildings include an exhibition center in the shape of the tea pot, while one company built its corporate headquarters in the shape of the Starship Enterprise -- the legendary spaceship from the Star Trek TV and movie franchise.
The document said "bizarre architecture" that isn't "economical, functional, aesthetically pleasing or environmentally friendly" would be banned although it didn't detail how those criteria would be assessed.
"I don't feel shocked by this news," says architect Hao Dong, founder of Beijing-based architecture firm Crossboundaries.
"The guidelines pretty much point to a positive direction, particularly in China where there are so many buildings completed to stand out, without considering their function."

More prefabricated structures

The guideline adds that construction techniques that use fewer resources, such as prefabricated buildings, would be encouraged, and that within a decade, 30% of new buildings would be prefabricated.
James Shen, one of the founders of People's Architecture Office in Beijing, says prefabricated structures could help the country ensure quality and lower housing costs. His design office has constructed IKEA-like prefabricated structures, that help modernize traditional courtyard homes in the city.
"We constantly hear in the news about rising housing costs, environmental waste, pollution and poor labor conditions. More oversight in the building industry and increased efficiency in production could help."
The directive also called for an end to gated communities. These residential housing estates that strictly control public access have sprung up in China as incomes have risen.
Those already in existence will gradually be opened up to pedestrians and traffic, the document said.

Creative with constraints

The new directive appears to be a way of formalizing construction rules that have been in the making for some time.
In October of 2014, President Xi Jinping called for less ostentatious buildings in China's skylines, according to state media.
And later that year, the vice-mayor of Beijing said the municipal government would be taking a more hands on approach to regulate buildings' size, style, color, and materials.
"Architects can be creative with constraints, we've shown that with our work," said Shen. "It's not having enough constraints that creates problems and I think that's what's happened in China. Endless building production has happened with little social responsibility."
CNN called the State Council for clarification on the new guidelines and was referred to the Ministry of Housing and Urban and Rural Development. Calls to that ministry went unanswered.
