Ghana captain Asamoah has been named in Shanghai SIPG's Asian Champions League clash against Muangthong United today.
Gyan, 30, is fit for the clash against the Thai Premier League side at the Shanghai Stadium in Shanghai, for a playoff round match of the 2016 AFC Champions League qualifiers.
The winner of the match will qualify in the Group Stage knockout games of the said qualifying tournament.
Shanghai SIPG automatically qualified in the play-off round due to its second place finish in the China top flight last season while Muangthong United had to face Malaysian Super League squad Johor Darul Ta'zim FC in the preliminary round 2.
Sven-Göran Eriksson's team is bannered by Ghanian striker Asamoah Gyan and Argentine midfielder Dario Conca, two of the best players in the world at their positions.
The game will also mark the debut of Brazilian striker Elkeson after he was transferred from two-time AFC Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande to Shanghai SIPG last month.

the MP for Assin North Hon Kennedy Agyapong yesterday morning discharged bare photographs of the questionable TV and Radio big name Presenter Afia Schwarzenegger.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central fumed at the radio personality for questioning the kind of work he does apart from politics, claiming that Ghanaians would want to know. He described Afia as a prostitute adding that she is still single because she bed wets and further threatened to deal with her.

It appears the feud between TV and Radio Host Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger and Assin North Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is not going to die down anytime soon.

The duo have pledged to descend into the gutters and already assassinating each other’s character and personality after a rival banter between them.

Afia Schwarzenegger during her Thursday mid-morning show ‘Y3 Wo Krom’ on Okay FM criticized Kennedy Agyapong for ‘insulting’ the siblings of President John Mahama.

“To her, the Assin North MP could have saved himself from her early morning insults from her if he had criticized the works of the president, leaving out his family.”

Some aggrieved land owners in the Eastern Region where a community day SHS was recently commissioned have threatened to turn the school into a public toilet.
The angry land owners at Nyanoa in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region whose lands were taken for the construction of the Community Day SHS made the threat after claiming government has failed to pay them their crop and land compensation.
One of the aggrieved landowners, an elderly woman, told Adom News Correspondent, Maxwell Kudekor, they cannot allow the school to run smoothly while government owes them compensation.
The elderly woman claims government took the lands from twenty-three other colleagues for the construction of the Community Day SHS at Kwaboa Nyanoa in the Eastern Region and promised to pay compensation but is yet to honour that promise.
President John Mahama on Thursday (yesterday) commissioned the school where the angry landowners had threatened to demonstrate.
However, the outgoing Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere, pleaded with them to rescind the planned demonstration.
The angry landowners have given government a two-week ultimatum to pay them their compensation.

  Rescuers in Taiwan pulled a young man alive from a collapsed apartment tower on Sunday more
 than 24 hours after a strong earthquake shook the island, and kept searching for more than 130 people believed trapped in the ruins of the building.
The 20-year-old was identified by Taiwan media as Huang Kuang-wei. He was taken to a hospital.
Firefighters, police, soldiers and volunteers combed through the ruins, some using their hands, watched anxiously by dozens of the victims' family members who wore thick jackets, woollen hats and scarves on a chilly morning.
"She's not answering my phone calls ... I am trying to hold my emotions and stay strong. I'll do that until I find her," said a woman surnamed Chang, 42, waiting to hear from her 24-year-old daughter who lived on the fifth floor of the complex.
"Nothing matters but to get her out. The lady living across the hallway was rescued yesterday. I know they will find her, but I have also planned for the worst. It's been more than 20 hours now."
At least 18 people are known to have died in the quake, which struck at about 4 a.m. on Saturday, at the beginning of a Lunar New Year holiday, including 16 found in the collapsed Wei-guan Golden Dragon Building in the southern city of Tainan.
A total of 132 people are still beneath the rubble of the commercial-residential block, said a city government official surnamed Chen, with all but about 30 of them trapped deep in the wreckage.
The building's lower floors pancaked on top of each other in the 6.4 magnitude quake and then the whole structure toppled, raising immediate questions about the quality of materials and workmanship used in its construction in the 1990s.
QUESTIONS
Tainan Mayor William Lai told reporters that efforts were focussing on 29 people who are closest to the rescuers, with lighter equipment like drills being used.
"The other 103 are believed to be at the lower floors of the building, and we can't find an accessible route to those areas at the moment."
The extent of damage to the Golden Dragon Building has raised questions.
Liu Shih-chung, Tainan city government deputy secretary general, said television footage of its ruins suggested the possibility of structural problems related to poor-quality reinforced steel and cement.
However, city officials have said it is too early to say for certain if poor construction was a factor in the collapse.
The dead taken from the collapsed apartment block on Saturday included a 10-day-old girl who was found in her dead father's arms, media reported.
Authorities said the building had 96 apartments and 256 registered residents, though more people were inside when it collapsed.
Rescuers wearing red and yellow overalls pulled more than 240 survivors from the ruins and inserted huge supports under slabs of leaning concrete as they searched for additional survivors.
Buildings in nine other locations in the city of 2 million people had collapsed and five were left tilting at alarming angles, a government emergency centre said on Saturday.

He died on Friday morning at the Tema General Hospital, according to his close pal and former colleague in the stage acting business, Akwasi Boadi, affectionately called Akrobeto.
Akrobeto, who confirmed his friend’s demise on Accra-based Peace FM, said he died as a result of problems with his kidney, liver and bladder.
Local movie producer and member of the Music Rights body GHAMRO, Ahmed Banda, (Bandex), also corroborated his death in an interview with Accra-based Kasapa FM.
Nkomode became a household name alongside the likes of comedians Bishop Bob Okala, Iced Kenkey, Agya Koo and several others who featured in the then Key Soap Concert Party .
These men and many others including women like Kumiwaa, kept Ghana’s theatre alive until the early 2000 when majority of them started moving into mainstream movie making.
Nkomode was a member of the vibrant Kristo Asafo Drama Group. As stage acting back then took a nosedive, the likes of Nkomode and others travelled abroad in search of greener pastures.
But even in his case, when he left Ghana in 2002, he was at the peak of his comedy career, although that skill was not rewarding financially at the time.
At some point, there were rumours that Nkomode had been arrested in London and jailed for dealing in drugs, which turned out to be false.
Nkomode, who returned to Ghana in 2011, finally cleared the air saying he was never arrested and that he had not dealt in drug before and would never do it.
He however admitted that he got involved in some visa racketeering incident which is normally referred to as ‘visa connection’ locally, but he was finally able to clear himself.

I’ll scrap Mahama’s ‘crippling’ tax regime – Nana Addo

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured Ghanaians that he will scrap what he terms as “high taxes” introduced by  the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) when he is voted into power.
Government’s recent decision to introduce new taxes on petroleum products coupled with the increases in utility tariffs, has incensed many Ghanaians.
Speaking at a gathering of some hairdressers and beauticians in the country, the NPP presidential candidate, said the taxes in his view, were introduced as a result of the poor management of the economy.
“Because of the high taxes imposed on every business activity in this country, including yours, businesses are being throttled. It is therefore no surprise that things are difficult in Ghana at the moment. Under my government, these taxes, imposed on you as a result of the mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy will be no more,” he said. He was warmly welcomed by the gathering, dominated by women.
The President of the National Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers, Mrs. Joyce Lamptey, expressed the collective joy of the Association for his presence at the dinner.
She outlined the aims of the Association, which were to defend the interests of beauticians and hairdressers.
She added that the Association also undertakes outreach programmes, adding that, this year, 50 women with hearing disability will be trained to becomr effective beauticians and hairdressers.
In response, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied by the National Women’s Organiser of the NPP, Otiko Afisa Djaba,indicated that the NPP was borne out of a political tradition which strongly believes that private sector development is key to any nation’s quest for sustained development and improvement in the livelihood of citizens.

I will fill your pockets in my 2nd term – Mahama tells Ghanaians

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians of a better economy that will have a positive impact in their pockets if he is given a second term.
He argued that his first four years in office has been spent improving the social infrastructure of the country which has been in dire need of a facelift for some time now.
He further explained that the development projects being delivered nationwide by his government will form the foundation for Ghana’s economic take off.
Speaking at the Inauguration of  one of the Community Day Senior High Schools at Kwaobaah Nyanoa in the Eastern Region on Thursday, President Mahama admonished Ghanaians to bear with the current challenges in the country because they are sacrifices necessary for Ghana’s brighter future.

Joe Frazier 'steals' Shatta Wale

Writing music isn’t easy as others might think. For an artiste to come out with great tunes, it requires passion and creativity.

Taking an artist’s work for the reason that the song is a hit and ride on that fame to revive one’s music career, keeps growing in the Ghanaian Music Industry.

Ghanaian Hiplife musician /Rapper, Joe Frazier is the latest culprit as he has hooked up on Shatta Wale’s ‘Kakai’ song to resurrect his ‘dead’ music career.

The ‘Ayo’ singer, disclosed on Pluzz FM that, “Kakai term is a general term used by everybody just as the word love is mentioned in songs by different artistes so there is no problem using Shatta’s term too in my new song.”

Formally green artistes were those found culpable of song titles and instrumentation theft, however, the reverse is now the case as famous musicians ‘steal’ the intellectual properties of their colleagues to give a face-lift to their talent.

Gospel Musician Ernest Opoku, was also caught up recently with Bisa Kdei’s hit song ‘Brother Brother’ to make it work for him again but it hasn’t received much patronage as fans are already enjoying Bisa’s tune.

When asked what he would do if he is accused of ‘stealing’, he said “Even if someone says I stole Kakai from Shatta Wale, at least I didn’t steal the lyrics and the spelling of Shatta’s Kakai, since mine is Kaekae.”

Joe Frazier started his music career in 2001 but faded out in 2007.

Ghana not ready for November polls – IEA

 

Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Jean Mensa, has stated that Ghana is not fully prepared for the November polls.
She said much was yet to be done in ensuring a successful election.
In an with Citi News, Jean Mensa said the Electoral Commission needs to immediately start a voter education exercise to sensitize Ghanaians on their civic responsibilities.
She noted that early sensitization of voters will ensure a reduction in the rejected ballots which dominate the nation’s polls.
The Electoral Commission had announced that this year’s election will be held on November instead of the usual December schedule.
According to Jean Mensa, although the EC has put out its timetable for the election, “I’m not hearing of voter education, the dialogue seems to be among the political leadership, those who are in charge of managing and running the elections.”
She lamented that the EC has only 8 months to organize the election “but “I’m not sure it is collaborating with the NCCE to raise awareness about the election to start engaging in voter education.”
“I’m not sure that we are putting ourselves in place to have a successful election, I think that more needs to be done. A lot of sensitization needs to be done from the EC and the NCCE as well. I know that we just started the year but I’m hoping that in the course of this quarter some activities will be put out to give comfort to us the ordinary citizens,” she added.
According to Jean Mensa, the voter register still needs some more work to be in tune with the expectations of the people.

Supreme Court throws out Dery's suit

A five-member Supreme Court Panel chaired by Justice Julius Ansah has by a unanimous decision dismissed Justice Paul Dery's suit which sought to declare as null and void proceedings instituted by the Chief Justice to remove him and several other judges who are alleged to have taken bribes.
The Supreme Court held that even though Tiger Eye PI did violate article 146 clause 8 of the 1992 constitution, it does not mean that the constitutional process to inquire into the petition should be declared null and void.
The embattled High court judge and several other judges were captured in a video allegedly taking monies to decide on cases before them by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye firm.
So far, 20 of the Magistrate and Circuit Court judges implicated in the scandal have been sacked from office.
Meanwhile, two High Court judges John Ajet-Nasam and Ernest Obimpeh have also been dismissed from the judicial service following their involvement in the judicial scandal.

It seems Ghanaian actor, businessman and philanthropist John Dumelo would have to lace his boots properly for the path he has chosen (openly declaring his support for the incumbent president of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama).

With recent news of being described as a sell out by some members of the opposition party since it is alleged that he had “secretly” met with the party’s leader before declaring his stands for another, tension is already mounting up although he has denied secretly meeting Nana Akuffo Addo.

His response to the accusation however seems not to have gone down well with a sympathizer who John believes is a member of the NPP.

In a tweet, the sympathizer openly cursed him on social networking site Twitter.

 Driver  accuses  Madina polyclinic for wife’s death

A ‘trotro’ driver Bernard Otoo whose wife died under bizarre circumstances while in labour at the Madina Polyclinic in Accra is blaming hospital  authorities  for the unfortunate incident.

According to him, doctors and nurses at the hospital delayed in attending to his wife whose actual nine months delivery period had passed by some weeks.
aggrieved Bernard Otoo told kulenu news blog, that his attempt to unravel the mystery behind the death of Cynthia Nuworsu has been stifled by the hospital’s authorities and the Madina Police.

“When I took her there in June last year, they told me she was in pain so they will have to induce her to ensure smooth delivery.

“So I left for home and decided to check on her later. When I returned they told me my wife had been transferred to the Alpha clinic, while on my way there they called and said she is at the Ridge hospital instead. Later they called me back and said I should return to the Madina Polyclinic and that she had delivered,” he narrated.

He continued: “The back and forth raised my alertness so I quickly demanded to see my wife when I got there but they refused. After a long wait, they summoned me for a meeting and told me my wife had died while in labour”.

He said he was suspicious of the quality of care that was given his wife before she died and so reported the matter to the Madina Police for an investigation to be conducted into the death but nothing has far been done.

Helicopter pilot killed on Tanzania anti-poaching mission

(CNN)A British helicopter pilot was fatally shot by elephant poachers while flying an anti-poaching mission in Tanzania, a member of Parliament and a conservation fund said Saturday.

Roger Gower was working with Tanzanian wildlife authorities when the poachers fired on his helicopter and fatally wounded him Friday, said Dan Friedkin, chairman of the Texas-based non-profit Friedkin Conservation Fund.

"We are profoundly saddened by the loss of our dear friend," he said.

Gower managed to land the chopper but died before he was able to be rescued, said Lazaro Nyalandu, the country's former tourism minister, who said he flew with Gower many times.

Tanzania gets 'The Devil' as it cracks down on elephant poaching

Gower was helping rangers find the killers of an elephant when the poachers fired at the helicopter with an AK-47, Nyalandu wrote on Twitter.

Photos of the crash site, provided by Tanzania National Parks, show the helicopter on its side in dense grass, its tail broken off. A bloody bullet hole can be seen in one of the seats.

"Those poachers who killed Capt Roger are coward, evil, and sad people. A fine hearted individual gone too soon, and our hearts are broken," Nyalandu wrote.
